About
Part I (8 CEs - In CPA Approval Process) This continuing education program is designed to deepen clinicians’ understanding and clinical considerations of the emotional, relational, cognitive, and cultural complexities faced by caregivers of individuals with dementia. Participants will: Identify common dementia types, associated symptoms (including BPSD), and the practical vs. emotional demands placed on caregivers. Recognize how pre-dementia relationship dynamics and perceived choice influence caregiver strain and emotional proximity over time. Understand the psychological and physiological impact of ambivalence and expressed emotion in caregiving contexts, including their relationship to caregiver health outcomes. Differentiate dementia-related grief, disenfranchised and self-disenfranchised. Explore concepts of eudaimonic well-being, caregiver identity, and opportunities for growth and meaning-making in long-term care relationships. Consider culturally responsive approaches by exploring Indigenous perspectives to caregiving and applying principles of cultural humility in clinical practice.
